There was a void post-less space, and my spirit simply couldn't bear the emptiness

Hello, Stranger!

This is the first post in this blog, so it is futile to expect some earth-shattering revelations right here and now. Nope, I'll save that for later posts, and I might even eventually make it a closed members-only blog (gasp!). Unlikely.

What I do want to say is that this blog will be about pretty much everything as long as that something helps in decision-making. If it's a meme about decision-making, it's in. If it's a profound treatise on the subject, bring it on. If I have an experience that I think teaches something about decision-making, it will find its way here. I will not constrain myself by anything other than common decency (maybe).

Let's start with a widely known historical anecdote. So there was a certain Mr. Julius Caesar, sitting on the bank of the river Rubicon, pondering his options. The way this story is typically told, he had only two options. One (which he eventually chose) was to cross the river with his army and start a Civil war, the other... wait a minute, has anyone really discussed what other options he had? I mean, at the very least, he could have just camped out there for a few months - maybe? Or, he could have taken his legions to attack some other place, as opposed to Rome. Or, maybe, he could have just quit and downshift from being a general to being a pretty well-off farmer. Or {fill in the blank with your idea}. But no: all we get is this "the die is cast" speech and Caesar marches on as if no other option was ever seriously considered.

This actually is a pretty typical approach when it comes to our own decisions. We see one, maybe two potential outcomes, choose one... and completely refuse to consider all the other possibilities that maybe - just maybe - could have been more viable. Or better for us. Then, once we so valiantly chose the outcome, we move on to charting a set of actions and milestones that will lead us to that outcome. Guess what - the story repeats itself: we see one path, and we go marching down that one.

Am I trying to say that's a bad way to make decisions? No, not at all. In fact, if you are like the fictional Mr. Julius and you only see one outcome and one path in your decisions - go for it and leave this site! Because if you stay, you will have to think and - God forbid - feel through multiple outcomes, multiple paths, multiple options. You will look not only at the decision, but also at its external context, and at yourself as the decision-maker. We will discuss decision paths, non-reversable actions and many other things... all in a quest to make better real-life decisions.

So, join me in talking and learning about decision-making or... or don't )) All up to you!

It's Your Choice.
